Donald E. Swan, age 85, of Rice Lake, WI died Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born on April 6, 1927 in Chicago, IL, son of the late Elvin and Freda (Fredrickson) Swan. He graduated from Barron High School in 1945. Don served in the United States Navy from 1945 to 1952 serving during World War II.
On December 13, 1952 Don married Esther Baumberger in Yuma, AZ. They moved back to Barron in 1953. Through the years he was a mechanic, milk hauler, farmer, semi driver and later years he ran Swan Pump Service.
Don was an active member of the Barron American Legion and Hungry Hollow Steam Engine Club.
Donald Swan is survived by his wife, Esther Swan of Rice Lake, WI; a daughter and son-in-law, Debra & Dean Hyland of Cumberland, WI; a son, Brother James Swan of San Juan Bautista, CA; 3 grandchildren, Dustin (Rebecca) Hyland of Port Orchard, WA, Derek Hyland of Cumberland and Darcy (Martin) Hyland Hoppe of San Diego, CA and 4 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers, Allen (Verna) Swan of Watertown, SD, Lynn (Adeline) Swan of Chatham, IL and Lee (Marlys) Swan of Rice Lake; 2 sisters, Kay (Mike) Bliss of Riverside, CA and Patricia (Arvin) Wilson of Coon Rapids, MN; and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elvin and Freda Swan; a sister, Sandra Ryan; a grandson, Darren Hyland; and a sister-in-law, Lydia Swan.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, August 18, 2012 at Maranatha Evangelical Free Church in Rice Lake, WI, with interment in the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Spooner, WI, where Military Rites will be accorded him by the Barron American Legion, Rev. Dan Reid officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 - 7 PM Friday at Appleyard's Home for Funerals in Rice Lake and for 1 hour prior to the service at the Church.
