| BARTELS, Luvona Mae |
| (November 9, 1924 - August 22, 2012) |
Luvona Mae Bartels, age 87, of Rice Lake, WI, passed quietly in her sleep Wednesday morning, August 22, 2012 at Care Partners in Rice Lake.
She was born November 9, 1924 to Goldie and Fred Wagner in Birchwood, WI where she grew up and attended school. She married Alvin “Stub” Bartels of Weyerhaeuser, WI on May 11, 1941. They lived in Birchwood, Radisson and Chetek and later moved to Rice Lake in 1954, where Stub was manager of Lampert Lumber Yards until retirement in 1983. Wife, mother, homemaker, she enjoyed cooking, baking, crocheting, camping and family. She was a Girl Scout Leader and recruiter for local blood drives and worked at a local health food store. Known as the “cookie lady” at her granddaughter’s events, she always had a smile and a cookie for anyone who wanted one (and many did!).
Luvona Bartels is survived by 2 daughters, Brenda Scolman of Palmyra, WI and Janice McCann of Rice Lake, WI; a son, Bruce Bartels of Eau Claire, WI; 10grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; and a sister, LuVerl Blaha of Ottertail Lake, MN. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin “Stub” Bartels; her parents, Fred and Goldie Wagner; and a great-grandson.
A Gathering and Celebration of Life will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, August 25, 2012 at Appleyard's Home for Funerals in Rice Lake, WI, Rev. Paul Green officiating, with interment in the Nora Cemetery in Rice Lake. Visitation will be held from 12 - 2 PM Saturday at Appleyard's Home for Funerals.
