Fred Smith, age 98, of Rice Lake, WI, died Friday, July 13, 2012 at the Heritage Manor in Rice Lake.
Fred was born to Jay and Cora (Brossard) Smith on March 17, 1914. He was married to Irene Olson on November 16, 1936 at Campia, WI. Fred was a logger, a carpenter and owned a saw mill for over 40 years. He was an avid fisherman, loved to garden and work in his work shop.
Fred Smith is survived by 8 sons, Roger (Roberta) Smith, Dale (Marilyn) Smith, Don (Lois) Smith, Raymond (Judy) Smith, Allen (Debbie) Smith, Bruce (Karen) Smith and Mark (Robyn) Smith all of Rice Lake, WI and Brian (Chris) Smith of Neillsville, WI; 3 daughters, Carol (Keith) Smith of Manitowoc, WI, Marilyn Otterholt of Rhinelander, WI and Janice (Mel) Elliott of Sandstone, MN; 34 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and 10 great great-grandchildren; 2 sisters-in-law, Lorella Smith and Leona Smith both of Rice Lake, WI; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Smith; a son-in-law, Jerry “Ozzie” Otterholt; 2 grandsons, Michael & Trevor; parents, Jay and Cora Smith; 6 brothers, Percy, Pete, Ray, Lloyd, Clayton and Wilson; and a sister, Gladys Strangeway.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, July 21, 2012 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Campia, WI, Rev. Ralph Marquardt officiating, with interment in the Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1 - 2 PM Saturday at the Church.
