Julia Peterson, age 90, of New Richmond, WI formerly of Owatonna, MN and Holy Island - Long Lake, WI died Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at the St. Croix Health Center in New Richmond.
The former Julia Rakestraw was born to Marvin and Lenora (Sasnett) Rakestraw on August 12, 1918 at LaGrange, GA. They resided in Atlanta, GA prior to moving to Tennessee where she attended Business College. They later returned to Atlanta where she completed course work at Emery University. On June 26, 1948 she was married to Randolph S. Peterson in Atlanta, GA where they resided until moving to Dallas, TX. They later moved to Owatonna, MN where they resided until retirement. Then they moved to Holy Island - Long Lake, WI where they spent their summers and their winters at Corpus Christi, TX. He preceded her in death on June 5, 2005. In addition to her love for her family, she loved golf and was especially proud of her hole-in-one. She also volunteered for Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts at Owatonna.
Julia Peterson is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Teresa & Tim Schreiner of New Richmond, WI; 2 sons and daughters-in-law, David & Annie Peterson of West Palm Beach, FL and Wendell & Kathy Peterson of Owatonna, MN; 6 grandchildren, Capt. Christopher Peterson, Marc Schreiner, Nicholas Peterson, Melissa Piette, Beth Brady and Katie Peterson; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marjorie Landrum of Gainesville, FL.
Memorial Services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, October 3, 2008 at the Long Lake Lutheran Church, with Rev. Gerald Hibbard officiating. Friends may call from 10 - 11 AM Friday at the Long Lake Lutheran Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Appleyard's Home for Funerals in Rice Lake, WI.
