DARRAH, Sheldon R.
(August 3, 1916 - November 15, 2011)
Sheldon R. Darrah, age 95, of Rice Lake, WI died Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at his home.

Sheldon was born on a farm August 3, 1916 about 3 miles north of the City of Barron. Grew up on the farm and attended a rural country school for 8 years followed by 4 years of High School in Barron graduating in 1934. After high school he started taking private guitar lessons and studied guitar music for about 4 years. Then joined school of music and entertained at PTA school programs around the local area. Sheldon obtained a radio program for more than a year on radio station WJMC. Sheldon enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps from 1942 - 1945. After World War II Sheldon was employed in the US Postal Service until retirement in December 1976. He organized the Country Western Band called the Dusty Strings.

He is survived by 3 daughters and sons-in-law, JoAnn Mickelson of Beloit, WI, MaryAnn Rahm & Andy Rahm of Hortonville, WI and Janice & Joe Kiewit of Rice Lake, WI; 11 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Darrah on January 17, 1989; a daughter, DeeAnn Taylor; a grandson, Steven Mickelson; parents, and a brother, Lawrence Darrah.

Memorial Services will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, November 21, 2011 at Appleyard's Home for Funerals in Rice Lake, Rev. Jerry Bernecker officiating, with inurnment in the Orchard Beach Cemetery in Rice Lake, Military Rites will be accorded by the Rice Lake Veterans Center Honor Guard. Visitation will be held from 10 AM - 1 PM Monday at Appleyard's Home for Funerals.

Memorials to the First Lutheran Church in Rice Lake are appreciated.
