Edward J. Konop, age 80, of Haugen, WI died Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at his home.
He was born March 27, 1930 to Joseph and Josephine (Dubisar) Konop at Haugen, WI. He attended Holy Trinity Catholic School in Haugen and was a 1947 graduate of Rice Lake High School. He farmed and worked for area Potato Growers until entering the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. On September 6, 1952 he was married to Janet Gabriel at Our Lady of Lourdes at Dobie. After receiving his discharge he returned to the Haugen area to farm until entering WITC where he received training in Drafting. He was then employed by Cooper Engineering for 26 years. Ed was an active member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, had served on the Haugen Village Board, and served on the Planning Commission as well. He was also a member of and Secretary of the Catholic Order of Foresters, the Haugen Brunclik - Konop American Legion Post and was Sexton of the Holy Trinity Cemetery. Ed was instrumental in organizing the Haugen Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, gardening and being with family and friends.
Ed Konop is survived by his wife, Janet Konop of Haugen, WI; 3 sons and daughters-in-law, Ken & Nancy Konop and Steve & Tandy Konop all of Haugen, WI and Jerry Konop of Pleasant Hope, MO; a daughter, Carol Ekenstedt of Ashland, WI; 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Amos Konop of Ojibwa, WI and Ernest Konop of Milwaukee, WI. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers and 4 sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:30 AM Saturday, July 3, 2010 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Haugen, WI, Fr. David Oberts officiating, with interment in the Holy Trinity Cemetery where Military Rites will be accorded by the Rice Lake Veterans Center Honor Guard. Friends may call from 9 - 11:30 AM Saturday at the Church.
