HALVERSON, Richard J.
(August 11, 1937 - June 29, 2010)
Richard J. Halverson, age 72, of Rice Lake, WI (retired Land Surveyor), passed away Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at the Lakeview Medical Center in Rice Lake.

Richard James Halverson was born to James and Sara (Skogen) Halverson August 11, 1937 in Montevideo, MN. Richard graduated from South High School Minneapolis in 1955. He enlisted in the Army, and served as a Sergeant Tank Commander on the Czechoslovakian Border Patrol. He was honorably discharged in 1958. On October 29, 1960 he was married to Shirley Nelson in Mason City, IA. Richard “Dick” was a member of many Rotary International Clubs, the Minnesota, Florida and Wisconsin Society of Land Surveyors, American Congress of Surveyors & Mappers, and recently a member of the Rice Lake Golden “K”. In addition to his love and dedication to his family, he loved sports (in particular hockey and softball), music and playing his guitar, and working in his yard. Dick was also an avid and knowledgeable reader of the Bible. He belonged to many Bible Study groups and enjoyed lively discussions of doctrine. It was his desire that all people experience a personal relationship with Jesus, as Dick so closely treasured.

Dick Halverson is survived by his wife, Shirley Halverson of Rice Lake, WI; a daughter, Susan Jacobson of Rice Lake, WI; a son and daughter-in-law, Russell & Karna Halverson of Northfield, MN; and 3 grandsons, Sam, Ben and Zach; 2 brothers, Tom (Susan) Halverson of Howard Lake, MN and Jeff Halverson of Minneapolis, MN; and 2 sisters, Sandra (Bob) Johnston of Bloomington, MN and Patricia Ann (Anna) Perry of St. Paul, MN. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Brian James.

Memorial Services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, July 5, 2010 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Rice Lake, WI, Rev. Jeff Elmquist officiating. Visitation will be from 10 - 11 AM Monday at Bethany Lutheran Church. Burial in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery will be at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Appleyard's Home for Funerals in Rice Lake, WI.
